A Request & A Video

So first of all, I have a request. Would you ladies be so kind as to share where you get your decorating tips? What magazines & websites are your favorite. Hubs and I are about to be in the final stages of purchasing our first home together (more to come on that later) and I want to change things up a bit. We currently rent a home and I finally have it decorated how I like and we are moving! But I want to brighten my home up when we move. So let me in on your little secrets :) Where do you get your inspiration for decorating. I need all the help i can get. I am always so focused on fashion and celeb life when it comes to websites and magazines that I don't know where to turn to get help... so I am turning to you ladies :) Can't wait to get started!

Secondly, if you want something to just warm your heart, or if you just simply LOVE dogs (like me) then watch this 60 second video. It's not sad, just absolutely precious!! :)

Sadly - I can't see the video at work :( As for decorating, I starting watching a ton of HGTV and I also like Martha Stewart Living and just googling images on the internet of different styles I like. I'm so excited you are getting a house! I can't wait to hear the details.

I get my home decor inspiration from Pottery Barn catalogs, EddieRoss.com, RealSimple, HGTV, and The nest.
Found here:

I also like the Nest's decorating forum:
http://community.thenest.com/cs/ks/forums/4110109/ShowForum.aspx

It is like the Knot but you can look at people's decorating bios instead of wedding bios

aww :) My favorite part was when the baby started laughing. I always look in the back of the weekly magazines (US, In Touch, Etc) and Martha Stewart! Congratulations on getting a house!

Is that not the sweetest video!!! I love the baby's smile at the end. :)

Congrats on your house purchase! How exciting! I love Restoration Hardware and Target is always one of my favorite stores. IKEA has good ideas in the catalog and I have even mocked some of the ideas in Pottery Barn that I love and know that I can do for so much cheaper by going to Hobby Lobby. Good luck! Decorating is so much fun!

All things Southern Living...althogh I think I tend to decorate a bit more modern than the typical southern home they show in the magazine.

Aw! I love that video! Especially cause the dog is huge and just towers over that baby! So cute- made me smile! I like HGTV and Cottage Living magazine (even though the magazine is no longer made). All Cottage Living subscribers got transferred over to a Southern Living subscription. I'll miss that magazine!Everything was so clean and simple.

CONGRATULATIONS to you both on your new home!!! I’m thrilled for you. We just got a home too. We move in on the 25th of this month. We are currently living in a maze of boxes. It makes getting ready in the morning a real challenge. I’ve been getting some great decorating ideas from a few of my favorite magazines: Southern Living/Southern Accents/Traditional Home/Cottage Living. I tear out the pages I like and keep a notebook. Once you lay out the pages you can see what style & theme you’re leaning towards. I work in Project Management/Commercial Design. I’m in charge of decorating all the hospitals & clinics. I get a lot of my ideas from luxury resorts & hotels around the world. I take pieces from each lobby and create a new fresh look by piecing them together with some of my own. The notebook really helps when I get design blockage (just a suggestion). You’ll have to keep me posted on your new home. By the way, I’m in love with your dogs!!!

I get inspired by so many things...Real Simple and Better Homes and Gardens magazines; Pottery Barn, Crate & Barrel, Ballard Designs catalogs; homes on TV and in movies; and of course, friends and family's homes.
I am certainly no design expert, but it's always been an interest. Try not to get too caught up in design "rules" -- go with whatever you think looks great! Everyone has their own style.
By the way, what a cute video! Thanks for sharing :)

Just found your blog & love it so far! I get most of my tips via HGTV (or website), the Decorating and Renovating board on thenest.com, and skimming through Pottery barn catologs/website. Keep up the good work! :)

I love to get ideas from Southern Living. I also like to go on home tours and take pictures of ideas that I like. I keep all of the photos, magazine articles, catalog pictures, etc in a binder.

I hope you had a Happy Valentine's Day!

Yay for buying your first house!!! That's so exciting. We bought ours last year. I can't offer much advice, we're STILL decorating. But, what I found really helped was bookmarking pictures of homes we looked at and loved their style. Also, loved Southern Living for tips. And, really, blogging has helped--people post pictures of their homes and I get ideas. But, honestly, I am the WORST decorator.
